An Analysis of Variables Related to University Student`s Suicidal Ideation -Regarding Effect of Suicidal Attempt Experience, Mental Health, Psychosocial Problems-

|
As the social interest of suicide problems has been increased, this study investigate factors related to suicidal ideation of university student which relatively less researched. On the viewpoint of social welfare, reflecting the human in situation is intrinsic viewpoint, this study was progressed to find out the practical basis to forecast the suicide ideation and to prevent the suicide of students. With the previous literature studies, the factors influencing the suicidal ideation of student, suicidal attempt experience, mental health, and psychosocial problem were classified. For this study 330 students are surveyed and finally 306 copies of questionnaires are used for statistical analysis. For measurement psychosocial problem checklist(PPI), MHQ which are used in Johns Hopkins University and SIQ are introduced. On the basis of previous studies stepwise regression is used, which suicidal attempt experience, mental health, psychosocial problems are input in turn. After analysis, suicidal attempt experience, life function and depression-anxiety among mental health variables, hoplessness among psychosocial problem variables, and age are the important factors that influence the sucide ideation. R² of this model was 42.80. On the basis of the results the intervention directions for suicide prevention of students are suggested.
